This month's topic is "The Legalistic Concepts Behind the Declaration of Independence: Natural Law/Rights, Popular Sovereignty, and Right to Just Revolution Among Others" presented by Dr. Charles (Trey) Wilson. Drawing upon the works of political philosophers such as Aristotle, John Locke, and Thomas Hobbes, Dr. Wilson will discuss the legalistic underpinnings of the Declaration of Independence. Among other topics, his talk will explore concepts such as natural rights, social contract theory, popular sovereignty, the divine right of kings to rule, the period of the Enlightenment, and the right to just revolution and examine how these ideas manifest in the Declaration.
