Alberto Giacometti at the Temple of Dendur

An Art Talk with Prof. Thomas Germano Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti (19011966) will be featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from June 12 to September 8, 2026, with 14 works in bronze and plaster on loan from the Fondation Giacometti in Paris, along with three works from The Mets collection. The Met plans to exhibit Giacomettis work in dialogue with the Temple of Dendur, the ancient Egyptian Temple that has been on permanent public view since 1978, and from one of the ancient civilizations that strongly influenced Giacomettis art and his practice. Throughout his career, Giacometti showed a particular fascination for ancient civilizations, especially the art of ancient Egypt. The Egyptian statues he saw in Italy as a young artist made a lasting impression on his visual repertoire, and after he moved to Paris, he frequently visited the Egyptian galleries of the Louvre.
