Calling all friends and fans of local theater, Victorian literature, and Queer literature! Our presenter, Edie Backman (MFA), will lead a dramaturgical discussion, tackling such questions as: How do The Brontë sisters, Jane Austen, and other Victorian authors influence contemporary theater and art? How do homage and satire factor in Victorian-inspired theater? What LGBTQ+ themes are found in Victorian literature and how are they expressed? How do modern theater directors and actors approach material derived from such classic literature? After the initial presentation, local professional actors from Nu Sass Theater will perform staged readings of selected scenes from the play Brontë Sister House Party, followed by Q & A. Registration is encouraged, as space is limited.
