The quill pen was the primary writing tool for more than 1,500 years, used extensively in Colonial America for everything from daily letters to important historic documents like the Declaration of Independence. Even today, the quill pen and ink is still seen as a symbol of education, literature, and artistic expression, even for modern writers who have never used one. Join Emma Marston, Curator of Education and Public Programs at the Elmhurst History Museum, to learn more about the history behind quill pens, and try writing with one yourself! Young children must be accompanied by an adult. Live in-person. No registration required.
