Water Security and Nutrient Transport with Ben Kelley

Streams carry large amounts of sediment and nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorous, and carbon into lakes like Lake Champlain. While these nutrients are a natural part of aquatic ecosystems, too much of them can fuel harmful cyanobacterial blooms that threaten ecosystem health, drinking water quality, and recreation. UVM grad student, field scientist , and data analyst Ben Kelley will leverage a decade-long monitoring effort of nutrient transport with machine learning from Self-Organizing Maps to present findings on the state of our water and what we can do to understand and reduce nutrient pollution.
