2026 is the 250th anniversary year of the United States and this has inspired Liz to adopta new them for this month which will be: “Artists Who Influenced Early America”. For the first artist, students will look at the work of Jennie Augusta Brownscombe.Brownscombe was one of the founding members of the Art Students League in New York andher work was widely popular because of her naturalistic style. She painted scenes fromColonial history to help her viewers escape from the increasing depressive life of encroachingindustrialization and 1800s urbanization. Although her works evoked nostalgic feelings sheresearched her depictions from first person accounts, including, what may have been her mostpopular piece, Thanksgiving at Plymouth. Students will also look at people in Colonial dressand copy and recreate figures in the clothing worn 250 years ago in the very young U.S.A. Thiswill be a wonderful way to practice and improve their life drawing skills. All are welcome! This pro
